John has been in Community radio since 2007, before retiring to Bundaberg in 2012, with Marilyn his wife, and to be nearer their two children and their families, and was previously “Manager & Presenter at YassFM 100.3” near Canberra in NSW.
John presents his programme as “Woody’s World of Music” where he outputs airtime based on Popular Music from around 1957 through to the mid 1980’s. Leaving School in England in July 1957 when Rock”N”Roll music was gaining recognition, was a great starting point. Living near Croydon , and working in London, presented the opportunity to attend many Pop Concerts, and has met several famous Stars, including Cliff Richard, Adam Faith and (the late) Davy Jones of The Monkees.
A main emphasis of Woody’s programmes is to entertain listeners with specific features on Artists, such as “ The Life & Music of “The Everly Brothers”/ “Dusty Springfield” / “Van Morrison” / “The Beatles” etc etc.
Woody’s CD & Vinyl collection is extensive, and fully Catalogued for easy sourcing of required material.
Woody also has a love for Orchestral Artists, such as “James Last” / “Ray Conniff” / Fausto Papetti” and many others, and segments his programme to incorporate an “Easy Listening time”.
With so much 1950’s – 70’s material, Woody can undertake to do non-stop Rock”N”Roll sessions as well.
Mondays & Fridays between 3 and 6pm is the time to catch up with him.
John’s other pastimes in retirement, apart from creating his programme is Overseas Travel, Golf, Woodworking (Scrollsawing & Intarsia) and Gardening.
John’s 1st purchased record was in 1958 “ At the Hop” by Danny & The Juniors.
